  • We’re excited to share a new chapter in JAI’s leadership. Jeff Williamson has been named President of Johnson Architecture, with Daryl Johnson stepping into a new role as Founding Partner and Creative Director.

This transition marks an exciting moment for our firm, one rooted in strong leadership, shared vision, and a continued commitment to design excellence.

Jeff, a Principal Architect and long-time partner, will lead the firm’s day-to-day operations, guiding our team and strategic growth initiatives. Jeff has played a key role in shaping both our projects and our people over his 17 years at JAI.

Daryl, our founder, has led JAI with vision and purpose since 1994. In his new role, he will remain deeply involved, providing design oversight, mentorship, and strategic guidance while continuing to support key clients and projects across the firm.

Together with partners Eric Bowen, Rick Friel, Joey Staats, Emily Haire, Heather Overton, and Kelly Reynolds, the leadership team will continue building on a strong foundation, guiding JAI into its next chapter of growth, creativity, and impact.

Defining the future. Leading with purpose. One remarkable team.

  • JAI partnered with a longtime client to design an executive lounge that elevates their corporate headquarters with a refined sense of comfort and hospitality.

The space blends function and luxury, featuring a catering kitchen, full bar, private bath, and a welcoming lounge designed for connection, conversation, and retreat.

From conceptual interior design through project management, our team helped shape an environment that balances modern sophistication with timeless detail. In collaboration with G&G Interiors, who curated the finishes and furnishings, and Jenkins & Stiles, whose craftsmanship brought the design to life, the result is a high-end space tailored for executive hospitality.

  • Big news for Sevier County!

A visionary proposal from the developers of @mountainmilepf — the Smokies Loop — has been named 1 of 16 finalist in @boringcompany's inaugural Tunnel Vision Challenge, selected from 487 submissions nationwide.

This proposed underground loop would connect a hub at Mountain Mile to some of the region’s top destinations, with a long-term vision of linking Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Sevierville — helping ease congestion in a region that welcomes over 20 million visitors each year.

We’re honored to have collaborated on the conceptual design of this transformative project and to help represent East Tennessee on a national stage.

Winners will be announced March 23 — stay tuned. Learn more on our website! Link in bio.

  • JAI was proud to partner with @johnsonandgalyonconstruction and the congregation of @knoxfirstsda to reimagine the future of their campus through a comprehensive master planning process.

The recently completed phase focused on improving accessibility, functionality, and the overall worship experience. A new elevator tower now connects all three levels of the building, thoughtfully integrating with the church’s midcentury modern architecture while expanding gathering spaces on each floor. Restrooms on the lower and main levels were renovated to meet modern accessibility standards, and the sanctuary was refreshed with updated finishes and lighting.

The broader master plan establishes a clear roadmap for the campus, including a future accessible main-level entry, expanded congregation space, and a new 4,500-square-foot plaza designed to welcome both members and the surrounding community.

  • One week until Christmas and we’re still cooking up good design 🍽️✨

A materials concept in progress for an upcoming restaurant — where texture, tone, and durability all matter just as much as atmosphere. Proof that thoughtful design doesn’t slow down for the holidays. More to come soon.
