Updates

  • It’s been a busy December at Johnson Architecture, but we still managed to sneak away for an overnight Christmas party earlier this month!

We’re so thankful for our vibrant team, their families, and the opportunity to celebrate another amazing year in each other’s company. And of course it wouldn’t be a JAI party without a mechanical bull…

  • Last week, the Lodge at Clayton Retreat won the AIA East Tennessee's People's Choice Award.

The training and retreat venue is located on a 10-acre site within the boundaries of @Clayton’s 174-acre headquarters campus. The Lodge overlooks Mount LeConte and features multiple training rooms and a large dining room that expands onto a deep wraparound porch. The design also includes an outdoor pavilion with bar and restroom facilities, and a large beer garden and grilling pavilion nestled in a lighted tree grove. The site includes 19 cabins with 62 rooms, offering lodging for 62-124 visitors during events.

  • Say hello to our 2023 summer interns! 🌞😎

KiAna Queener has accepted a full-time interior design position with our firm after graduating in May from @utchattanooga, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in interior architecture and design and a minor in historic preservation. She graduated high school from the Chattanooga School for Arts & Sciences and ran cross country at @clevelandstatecc before completing her education at UTC. In the past, she has served as an after-school care and summer day camp counselor at the @ymcachattanooga.

Dexter Gladney Jr., the first recipient of the Johnson Architecture Scholarship at the @utkcoad, is spending his second summer at JAI. He assists in the design process for commercial and residential spaces across East Tennessee, conducts research and assists with project deliverables. He has served as a @utksga senator and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity president at the University of Tennessee.

Morgan Doherty also is spending her second summer with us. She is an architecture and design student at @utknoxville, where she is a teaching assistant. The Knoxville native is on track to graduate in May 2024 and spent the first five months of 2023 studying abroad in Rome. This summer, Morgan has been an integral design team member for an exciting new project we’re working on at Dollywood. Morgan’s interests outside of work include volunteering at @museknox, a children’s science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) museum.

Each of you make the JAI team better!
  • Join us in welcoming Gabrielle Howard to the JAI team! Gabrielle is our new intern architect and landscape architect with an advanced education and experience in master planning and conceptual design. Her stellar time management and communication skills – along with her diligent work ethic – make her the perfect addition to JAI. Welcome, Gabrielle! 👋
