Get to Know: Kelly Reynolds

July 9, 2019

Kelly Reynolds, RID, NCIDQ, joined JAI in 2015.

What is your role at JAI?

Registered Interior Designer (RID).

What three words best describe you?

Dedicated, caring and outgoing.

What is your favorite aspect of being on the JAI team?

I appreciate the fact that the partners treat us as colleagues, not employees. We’re given the autonomy to tailor our process on each project and really develop close relationships with our clients.

What three words best describe the culture at JAI?

Collaborative, supportive and creative.

How has working at JAI enhanced your professional development?

Our diversity of projects allows me as a designer to constantly expand my view of how to achieve the end goal. It’s important to the creative process to work on different types of projects. Otherwise, designs can become stagnant.

What or who is your go-to source for work inspiration?

Rebecca Ware and I tag-team the interior design needs of the firm. We come from differing backgrounds in design, and I think we both bring unique experiences and knowledge to the table. We’re a good team and I think our designs reflect our collaboration.

If you could switch places for a day with any JAI team member, which one would you choose?

Danielle Hemsley, JAI’s director of business development. I’m an extrovert, and I love nothing more than meeting with clients and discussing ideas. Danielle’s job requires a lot of interaction with clients, and that’s the part of my job that I love the most.

Before joining JAI, what was the most unusual job you held?

Outside of design-related jobs, I always worked in retail. For a brief time in college, I worked at HoundDogs, and let’s just say, game day on campus was always interesting.

What do you look most forward to at the end of a workday?

Spending time with my family and friends. My daughter is a high school cheerleader, and my son is involved in youth football and baseball – so most “spare time” is spent at a ballfield of some sort.

If you were stranded alone on an island, what three material possessions would you hope to have with you?

Sunscreen (I’m so Irish), my iPhone and charger (can that count as one?), and my Bible.

What is your favorite place in the world?

The beach or the lake with my family and friends.

What are you currently watching or reading?

I’m currently reading “It’s Not Supposed to be This Way” by Lysa TerKeurst. Also, I’m an avid reality TV watcher and podcast listener.
