Johnson Architecture staff architects Emily Haire and Michael Schmidt have successfully completed the Architecture Registration Examination (ARE) to become fully licensed.
“We are thrilled to congratulate these architects who offer so much dedication and talent to our clients,” said Daryl Johnson, founder and president of Johnson Architecture. “Emily and Michael are creative and skilled designers and incredible assets to the firm.”
Haire, a project manager and designer, completed her licensure in July 2024. Haire has contributed to many successful projects in her tenure, including the Cherokee Cultural Corridor for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and Marble Hall at Lakeshore Park. Haire also has provided project management and design for Maryville College Downtown Center, RT Lodge, and Maryville Operations Center. Emily was named one of Knox.biz 40 Under 40 in 2020.
Schmidt, a project architect, earned his licensure in 2023. He has provided architectural support on several key projects, including Guy Fieri’s Flavortown concept at Myrtle Beach Mall, Adrian Burnett Elementary School, and multiple projects at Dollywood.
The Architect Registration Examination is a rigorous, multi-division exam that assesses skills and knowledge in the practice of architecture. It evaluates participants on areas that affect the integrity, soundness and health impacts of a building as well as other professional responsibilities like project management and coordination.
Becoming a licensed architect can be a long and challenging process and earning an accredited architecture degree is only the first step. Graduates must demonstrate proficiency on real projects under the supervision of a licensed architect before taking the six-part licensing exam.
JAI is proud to employ 11 Registered Architects and two Registered Interior Designers, in a staff of 24.
