Tower Shops at Mountain Mile

Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

JAI worked with new owners of an obsolete, 224,000-square-foot former indoor shopping mall to add an entertainment attraction and green spaces to a reimagined series of shops and restaurants nestled in the valley of the Smoky Mountains.

JAI provided master planning and design services for this new attraction and retail space, including theming of the project circled around the Mountain Monster tower ride. Materials and textures were sourced to create the character of an old mining town with a nod to industrial but historical design. The center portion of the building was demolished to accommodate the tower swing attraction and allow for an outdoor retail shopping experience complete with turf islands with benches and natural boulders, fire pits and kid play areas.

The remaining building was converted into retail shops, indoor attractions, entertainment venues and restaurants. These shops are clad with timeless materials, including brick veneer, cedar and reclaimed barn wood siding, as well as industrial materials, such as Corten steel panels and aluminum siding. Large, open turf lawns provide open venues for the community and surrounding areas and are bordered by a train depot with covered platform.
