Knoxville First Seventh-day Adventist Church

Knoxville, Tennessee

JAI is proud to partner with Johnson & Galyon Construction and the Knoxville First Seventh-day Adventist Church congregation to reimagine the future of their campus. Through comprehensive master planning, we have developed a strategic approach to accommodate growth, resulting in a three-year construction plan, a 10-year construction plan, and a visionary long-range plan for campus improvement and expansion.

Current phase highlights

The current phase of the project focuses on enhancing accessibility, functionality, and aesthetics throughout the church building. A newly designed elevator tower is being added to connect all three levels, seamlessly integrating with the building’s midcentury modern architecture while also expanding gathering spaces on each floor. Accessibility upgrades include the renovation of restrooms on the lower and main levels to meet modern standards. Additionally, the sanctuary is undergoing a transformation with updated finishes and upgraded lighting, creating a refreshed and inviting space for worship. These improvements aim to enhance the overall experience for church members and visitors alike.

10-year construction plan

The 10-year plan addresses the need for accessible main-level entry and an additional 1,215 square feet of congregation space at the main entrance. A newly designed, 4,500-square-foot plaza and expanded indoor gathering area will provide a welcoming and functional space for the community to come together. To improve convenience, parking near the new plaza will be increased, providing a covered entry into the building for enhanced accessibility and ease of use.

Long-range vision

JAI conducted a master planning exercise to create a long-range vision for the church. This plan ensures efficient site development to accommodate future growth while providing clear goals and direction for the congregation.

This project represents a thoughtful blend of functionality, inclusivity, and architectural harmony, ensuring the campus serves its growing congregation for years to come.
