Arrowhead Estate

Additions & Renovations

Knoxville, Tennessee

JAI and Hickory Construction worked with the family of this Sequoyah Hills residence to create an addition that would allow them to grow and function in their historic home for years to come. The main constraints included an ill-functioning primary suite, no garage, and a very small kitchen with little-to-no outdoor living space.

JAI designed a 3-story addition to tie seamlessly with the existing architecture. Due to the nature of the corner lot, the siting of the new addition was rotated on angle to allow for garage access from the loop drive and opening the backside of the home to an expansive deck allowing for daylight and privacy.

The addition included a two-car garage on the basement level, a kitchen and family room on the main level and a primary suite and laundry room on the second floor. Renovations to the existing space included rework and additions of en-suite bathrooms and closets to the existing bedrooms and new windows throughout. Large exposure painted cedar shakes and brick cladding match the existing home on the exterior. The interior follows the simple, classic detailing including integrated wood flooring toothed into the original and matching trim profiles. The second floor nestles into the new rooflines to complement the scale of the existing structure.
