River Valley Health
River Valley Health, formerly known as Cherokee Health Systems, partnered with JAI to create a state-of-the-art medical office building reflecting the organization’s commitment to whole-person care and offering primary care, dental services, behavioral health, pharmacy, and urgent care. The thoughtfully designed facility features sustainable construction and materials reflecting its East Tennessee environment. The exterior entry and main focal points are constructed of timber-wrapped beams and exposed tongue and groove wood deck ceilings. The rainscreen facade of durable composite wood was sustainably produced of recycled materials. The exposed framing offers soaring ceiling heights over the lobby and community room spaces, which are framed with floor-to-ceiling window walls with Low-E thermal glazing that offer views of surrounding farmland while protecting the interior from harmful UV rays and increased heat loads. Three clerestory window systems fill the interior core of the floor plan with diffused, Northern light, providing a visual connection to the exterior for those staff and patients inhabiting the central spaces, while reducing the need for artificial lighting. The geothermal mechanical system takes advantage of the available surrounding acreage for a closed loop, horizontal system. It provides an economical, long-term solution to energy savings and is an example of the client’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. LED lighting is incorporated in both the interior and exterior, which provides even, diffused lighting with customizable levels along with energy savings.
