Dollywood Big Bear Mountain

Dollywood’s Big Bear Mountain, located in Dollywood’s Wildwood Grove, is the park’s longest roller coaster at 3,990 feet of of track and offers three linear induction motor (LIM) launch sections, including an area where the attraction goes through and over a waterfall. JAI worked from conceptual design through construction with Dollywood and Herschend Family Entertainment to design the queue layout, load station, and back-of house-facility, maintenance building, waterfall and pump house and a new food service facility. JAI also closely worked with Vekoma, the attraction designer, on the facility interface and attraction layout. The attraction tells the story of a Wildwood Grove’s resident wilderness explorer who is on the hunt for the elusive Big Bear. The facilities are themed to represent an Adventure Outpost Basecamp where guests begin their adventure. The queue features three adventure themed tents, and the load station is a 3,600-square-foot facility meant to evoke a national park outpost that includes a host break room and the ride launch systems room. The maintenance building is a separate 3,000-square-foot facility where the ride vehicles can be offloaded utilizing a switch-track for regular maintenance and inspections. The attraction wraps around the back side of the existing Wildwood Grove area of the park, and the design includes a new plaza area and food service facility all themed in the same manner as the attraction.
