Get to Know: Michael Schmidt

December 21, 2019

Michael Schmidt is a JAI student intern.

What is your role at JAI?

I am a student intern who performs all tasks ranging from candy shopping to real architectural drawings.

What three words best describe you?

Particular, unconventional, Intern #1.

What is your favorite aspect of being on the JAI team?

Everyone has their own expertise in something. If I need help, there is always an expert nearby.

What has been your proudest moment to date working at JAI?

Placing third in the chicken run at Smokies Stadium.

How has working at JAI enhanced your professional development?

I learn more about the business every day. Coming along to meetings between the architect and client has given me the most insight on why we do what we do.

What or who is your go-to source for work inspiration?

Driving through neighborhoods.

If you could switch places for a day with any JAI team member, which one would you choose?

I would like Brandy Hatmaker’s place. She has the best location in the office, being right next to the kitchen. I would do great, until someone asked me a question.

Before joining JAI, what was the most unusual job you held?

Remodeling Stan and Josette Rabun’s house. Despite being 6’5”, I fit in hot attics and spider-infested crawlspaces better than I ever imagined.

If you were stranded alone on an island, what three material possessions would you hope to have with you?

Daily ration of mac and cheese, a cooking vessel and a Swiss Army knife.

What is your favorite place in the world?

Urban Bar.

What are you currently watching?

The Good Doctor.
