For several years, the mid-century former chapel of Lakeshore Mental Health Institute was mostly closed as the hospital became smaller, and Lakeshore Park began developing around it.
But in recent months, the old chapel building has become open in more ways than one.
The building – now called Marble Hall due to its marble and granite facing – is not only accessible to the public for use, but it is now literally also open on both sides. The removal of the former lead-trimmed and opaque glass windows that lined the sides of the structure has now turned the building into sort of a large pavilion and allows access at all operating times, except during rented events.
